Biography

Marc is originally from Brussels but currently lives in Majorca, Spain.

His musical and artistic career is resolutely inspired by Anglo-Saxon artists: Radiohead, Eels, Elbow, The Divine Comedy, Jeff Buckley, Blonde Redhead among others.

Beginnings in music

He's self-taught – he learned to play his sister's guitar by sneaking into her room while she was away when he was 10. In his first group, he chose the bass because the other instruments are already taken. He continued as a bassist and author/composer in a few student groups and released his first EP at the age of 25 with Naked Flame under the Brussels label Crossover.

In England with Guy Chadwick

While making a very small appearance on bass during a concert by his friend Marc Huygens from So (future Venus), he was spotted by the director of Bang! who offers him to take part in a project with Guy Chadwick, ex-singer of The House of Love. Together, they recorded 2 albums – one in Belgium, the other in England, which would never be released but allowed him to accumulate a great studio experience with various major artistic producers: the pair Peter Vermeersch/Pierre Vervloesem, Warne Livesey and Pat Collier.

Concerts in Flanders with Kris Dane

Kris Dane offers him to accompany him on tour for his album Boy 26. He learns a lot from contact with Kris, who recorded his pieces with the jazz musicians of Aka Moon. He will also participate in the setting up of Individual Friends, at the Archduke in Brussels and then in apotheosis at the Old Belgium.

PONI, contemporary dance collective, concerts and performances

From its creation, he joined Poni, a collective combining contemporary dance, rock music, videos, visual arts and performances with which he toured for almost 10 years. The first show was a real success: the Center Pompidou became its biggest producer, along with other European theatres. After a few years and a second show, the collective focused on a concert formula combining music and stage performance, very similar to what the Canadians of Arcade Fire would later offer, both on stage and musically. They released an EP in 2006.

The recording of Shrines with Minérale

He is part of Mineral and records the album Shrines, as a free electron of the group: he plays keyboards, percussion, guitar or even bass. This project obtains a good notoriety in French-speaking Belgium. After the stop of Poni, it makes the musics of the films Calamity, of Séverine de Strijker and Fritkot of Manu Poutte.

Departure to Uruguay

He thinks about quitting music for good and moves to Uruguay with his family, but can't resist buying an acoustic guitar. Finally, he plays again in a trio with bassist Mateo Olivero and drummer Matias Nuñez, and after being chosen as the flagship group of the Francophonie celebrations in Uruguay, they decide to record an album. For the first time in his career, Marc is trying his hand at writing in French.

The recording was done on a trio basis, then Marc did all the arrangements and artistic production alone. Around electric and acoustic guitars, he likes to use vintage keyboards, like the Rhodes, the Korg Ms-20 or the Mellotron. Peter Crosbie, who had produced the Mineral album, gives him some good advice throughout the recording, and above all does the mixing. Finally, the mastering is done in the United States by Tom Waltz.
